Product pipeline: Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia

Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia (VIN) is a chronic pre-malignant disorder of the vulvar skin. There are three types of VIN, the usual type, the differentiated type and the unclassified type. The usual type is caused by high-risk HPV types, with HPV 16 in more than 90% of cases. VIN is not cancer but may evolve into invasive vulvar cancer.

ISA's most advanced product under development is a therapeutic HPV-SLP® vaccine for the treatment of patients suffering from Human Papilloma Virus type 16 (HPV16) associated VIN. The low spontaneous regression rate of VIN (1.5% of patients) allows for relatively small clinical trials to show proof of concept. Insights from these clinical trials are currently being applied for the development of ISA's SLP® therapeutic HPV vaccine for other, larger indications with a higher spontaneous regression rate such as Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Cervical Cancer. At present, clinical trials in CIN and cervical cancer are ongoing.
