Product pipeline: Adjuvant IS

Adjuvant IS is a chemically well-defined adjuvant (TLR ligand) targeting specific receptors on antigen presenting cells, thereby stimulating and modulating the immune response initiated by vaccine antigens. The adjuvant shows to be non-toxic in animals. The adjuvant is a well-defined Neisseria meningitidis LPS, a potent immune stimulator. Because of the fact that even the wild type Neisseria meningitidis LPS has been demonstrated to be safe in human Phase I and Phase II clinical studies, safety in humans is anticipated. Up to now the results obtained both from in vitro and in vivo experiments clearly demonstrate that the adjuvant stimulates immunity to a variety of antigens (polysaccharides, proteins, viruses, vesicles, protein in liposomes) more than competing products or at lower dosage.

Adjuvant IS has demonstrated the following characteristics:

• Stimulates T-cell responses
• Stimulates phagocytosis
• Low side effects
