Gerard Platenburg Chief Executive Officer
Gerard Platenburg is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of ISA Pharmaceuticals. He has more than 20 years senior managerial experience in the biotech industry. Gerard worked for several biotech companies prior to founding Prosensa which he grew into a clinical stage company. He led the company through several financing rounds, most recently (2008) a series B round. Gerard holds a degree as a molecular biologist from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.
Cornelis Melief Chief Scientific Officer
Cornelis Melief has made significant contributions to the field of immunology and in particular cancer immunology. He started his career at the blood bank in Amsterdam (CLB), after which he became head of the immunology department at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). In 1991 he became professor at the LUMC and since then his group has been working intensively to devise new therapies for cancer based on activation of the patient's own immune system. Cornelis Melief is member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Johan Frieling Chief Medical Officer
Johan Frieling holds an MD and PhD from the University of Nijmegen. After three years of clinical research in academia, he has gained more than 14 years experience in pharmaceutical and clinical development at different management positions within Genzyme Europe, Bayer and as consultant. His last position was Senior Medical Director at Genzyme. Johan Frieling is responsible for the design and implementation of ISA's clinical drug development strategy.
Mark Krul Non-executive
Mark Krul has a background in molecular biology and immunology and over 16 years experience in anticancer drug development. He held several positions at NDDO Oncology BV (formerly the EORTC New Drug Development Office) with respect to oncology drug development strategies. Before that, Mark Krul was Research Manager of the European Cancer Center and head of the Department of Molecular Virology at the National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection, the Netherlands. Mark Krul chairs the board of ISA.
Karl Rothweiler Non-executive
Karl Rothweiler has been involved in the founding, restructuring and funding of multiple technology driven companies. He received his MBA in the US, following his studies at The Netherlands School of Business, Nijenrode. Karl Rothweiler supervises financial and corporate issues at ISA.
